continued to walk in rear of me, urging me all the while. When we got to just over the bridge over the tram line, he asked me

to go up the path to the R.A. Mess buildings, saying that it was

also my beat. He went up the path at the side of the tram line

about 20 steps. I walked along on Macdonnell Road, and he, 880-

-ing that I did not follow him, came down again and walked

ahead of me, into the Public Garden gate off Garden Road, to

the Nursery, where he made signs with his hand and motioned

with his head for me to come in there. I shook my head and

walked on down towards Kennedy Road, He went through the garden

and came out at the gate near the Kennedy Road. I had almost

reached Kennedy Road. He came up to me and asked me what I

intended to do. I said it would not do in the daytime. He then

suggested the night time, and I said the night time would be

better. I did that to get rid of him. He then asked me at what

time I would be for duty, and I told him 10 o'clock, No. 4

Section, No. 12 and 13 beats, the same as he had seen me on

the previous night. Then he left, going down by the tram

station. When I came off duty at 10 o'clock, I reported the

matter to the Deputy Superintendent. He referred me to the

C. D. I. I saw the latter at about 12.15 p.m., and he arranged

with me what to do. I saw the C.D.I. when going on duty at 10

p.m. and carried out his instructions. I went on No. 4 Section,

No. 12 and 13 beats. I was in Hpllywood Road, working my beats

by the left, and met Jemadar Gulab near Peel Street, as I was

going towards Graham Street. He stopped and so did I. He did

not ask me allright about my beats, but at once said: What

about it now. I put him off by saying that it was too soon,

better make it 12 o'clock. He said: Best go to Ezra Lane. I

said it is too well lighted, and plenty of people go in and

out there. He then said: Where then ? I said: Come to me at

11.45, and I will arrange a place. He then went away westward,

and I went eastward on my beat. At about 11.30 p.m. I met

P.S. Terrett and P.S. Murison in Lyndhurst Terrace near Tun Wo

Lane,
